I have been talking a lot about "perceptions" the last few weeks; and how perceptions change our realities. We can continue to form our perceptions from our past memories, and keep repeating our lives over and over again. Or, we can begin to let our faith form our perceptions, which will create futures that change our lives forever; futures that will move mountains in our lives. We can walk in faith so that our perceptions can change to allow all of who we were created to be, to come forth in our true, authentic self.
Recently, I was sent the link I have attached below for a video to watch that relates to perceptions. This video will expand your perceptions of people, if you will let it. In the video, it is obvious that the judges formed perceptions of Paul Potts as soon as he came onto the stage. Before he sang, they formed their perception of him based on his shy, humble, yet mediocre appearance, and his plain, every day vocation in life. As he sang, though, and the truth of Paul was revealed, their hearts were touched and their perception of him changed.
Remember, sometimes the real you is hidden, just as it was with Paul Potts in this video. God has placed gifts in all of His creations. He is just waiting for each of us to let them come forth. I love to see all people come out of where it appears that they are, into the true, authentic person that is deep within them. We must understand that God delights in our coming forth into the real person that He created each one of us to be. He must especially delight in the ones that are able to have faith in the future and come forth, even when society seems to overlook them or assumes the fate to which they believe they will fall.
I believe this was true of Paul Potts. In another video clip, Paul spoke of how he was bullied by other people when he was growing up. He believed it was because he was different that he was bullied. Because of his being different, he struggled with self confidence. But, he said that he always felt that his voice was his best friend. When he sang, he said that he did not struggle with self confidence, because he was in the place where he should be. He had faith to move the mountain of bullying and being shunned by his peers and being different; and he let the beautiful gift that God gave him come forth in his singing.
Paul moved past his lack of acceptance by man; and by faith, he stepped onto a stage in front of many people who could reject and refuse him. Based on his past, I'm sure his faith may have been the size of a mustard seed; nevertheless, he stepped forward and took a chance! As he took the chance, he saw his mountain of fear move right before his eyes. His fears of rejection turned into an unbelievable moment of acceptance. His true authentic self was finally experienced by others. The truth set him free.
I encourage you to watch the video on the link that is noted below. After you watch it, then come back to this thought and read it again. May we not only begin to walk by faith to change our perceptions within our own lives; but may we also walk by faith to change our perceptions, or first impressions, of those people with whom we come in contact every day of our lives. In the video, the female judge said of Paul Potts, "A frog that will turn into a prince". Wasn't the prince there all the time? Could it be that we assigned the perception of a frog, before we gave Paul a chance to be the prince that he was truly created to be? Let's change our perceptions for us and for others!
Blessings, Alan
